A really bright nose with sweet tobacco and five spice. The palate is dense and taut, with notes of cassis and kirsch — sinewy, chalky, and with grip. Slight balsamic nuances come through on the palate, along with bright purple and blue-fruit character. Very introverted at present and in need of a few years to open up and express itself. A wonderfully well-put-together wine.
