portadaperfil History
Viña Amelia is a Chilean wine project dedicated exclusively to producing premium Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with an identity deeply rooted in the Limarí Valley in northern Chile, on the edge of the Atacama Desert.

Its story began in 1993 with the first vintage of Amelia Chardonnay in the Casablanca Valley. Following a long period of exploration, research and specialisation led by Concha y Toro’s winemaking team, the project found an exceptional home in Limarí, particularly at the Quebrada Seca vineyard, where it could further its pursuit of freshness, precision and the expression of terroir.

In 2017, under the technical direction of winemaker Marcelo Papa, Amelia entered a new phase in Limarí and added Pinot Noir to its portfolio. Years of research into soils, climate and vineyard management have led to a deeper understanding of the vineyard and its different expressions, helping to shape a style centred on freshness, tension, precision and a clear sense of origin.

After more than a decade of development in Limarí and growing international recognition, Viña Amelia became an independent subsidiary within the Viña Concha y Toro group in 2026. This new chapter aims to deepen its specialisation in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, strengthen its identity and further develop a distinctive approach centred on origin, winemaking precision and authenticity.

The portfolio is now organised into collections, each conceived as a different way of exploring and interpreting Limarí. The Quebrada Seca Collection brings together the flagship wines that have historically defined Amelia’s identity, sourced from specific blocks within the vineyard. The Limarí Collection, meanwhile, offers a broader perspective on the same territory, exploring different facets of its identity, including its coastal geography, biodiversity, intense sunlight and oceanic influence.

Today, Marcelo Papa leads the project’s technical direction, with a focus on producing balanced, precise wines that express the distinctive qualities of their origin. Through its different collections, Amelia continues to explore Limarí in greater depth and the possibilities the region offers for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Vineyards

Quebrada Seca
The Quebrada Seca vineyard is located in the Limarí Valley, just 23 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. It covers a total of 65 hectares, with 52 hectares planted to Chardonnay and 13 to Pinot Noir.

The soils are poor, calcareous and well drained, with a high concentration of calcium carbonate. The climate is semi-arid, with a strong coastal influence from the nearby Pacific Ocean and the Humboldt Current.

In the mornings, the camanchaca, a cool coastal fog that rolls in from the ocean, blankets the vineyard and moderates temperatures, helping to extend the ripening season. This maritime influence is accompanied by intense sunlight and a wide diurnal temperature range, conditions that encourage slow, even ripening.

The combination of calcareous soils, oceanic influence, camanchaca and intense sunlight gives Quebrada Seca its distinctive character and contributes to the freshness, tension, depth and precision that define Amelia’s Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
