Clos des Fous History
Clos des Fous was founded in 2009 with a firm belief in revealing Chile’s geological and climatic diversity and expressing its identity through wines made on a human scale—wines that speak of the rocks, their origins and the places they come from.

In contrast to an approach to viticulture often driven by certainty, technology and uniformity, the project embraces heterogeneity, diversity, small-scale production and minimal intervention. Its philosophy revolves around rocks, passion and a spirit of adventure, with a constant pursuit of natural balance and as little intervention as possible.

Rather than seeking to control nature, Clos des Fous seeks to let it express itself, exploring different territories and growing conditions across Chile. It is a philosophy they sum up simply as: “imprinting the rocks on the wine.”

Vineyards

Pucalán
Located in the commune of Puchuncaví, in coastal Aconcagua, just 7 kilometres from the sea, the vineyard was planted at high density in 2007 using French plant material. Its soils are composed of sand, ancient compacted dunes and uplifted marine terraces. Situated in the southern part of Chile’s Norte Verde, the area has a climate characterised by relatively cool, stable temperatures, low rainfall and a long summer season. The vineyard is planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Grillos Cantores
Located in the commune of Requínoa, in Alto Cachapoal, at 600 metres above sea level, the vineyard has gravelly, sandy-silt soils and is strongly influenced by the Andes. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Nebbiolo, Carignan and Tempranillo.

Latuffa
Located in Traiguén, Malleco, this dry-farmed vineyard was planted in 2010 with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. Its soils are composed of volcanic tuff and ash. The climate is continental, with a short, variable summer season and rainfall throughout the growing area.
