History
The story of Algorta Family Wines draws on the family legacy of Genaro, Matías Palma’s great-grandfather, who arrived in Chile from Algorta in the Basque Country in the late 19th century. Today, the fourth generation continues that story through a wine project that brings together tradition, identity and a distinctive perspective.
Its philosophy is rooted in minimal intervention, both in the vineyard and the winery, allowing each variety to express the typicity, freshness and complexity of its origin with honesty and clarity. The aim is to produce wines with elegance and depth that remain approachable and easy to drink.
Today, Algorta is focused on building a distinctive and recognisable identity, combining winemaking consistency with an innovative approach to design and the versatility to appeal to different markets. The challenge is to convey the value of a brand with character, where the quality of the wines is underpinned by an authentic family story.
Vineyards
El Tambo
Algorta’s main vineyard is located in El Tambo, on the northern slope of Pangalillo Hill in San Vicente de Tagua Tagua. It covers 12 hectares planted with Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. The climate is Mediterranean, while the deep, well-drained soils are of granitic origin.
Other Origins
To complement its portfolio, Algorta works with partner growers under long-term contracts across several wine-growing areas. Its main sources include Mulchén in Biobío, Almahue in Pichidegua and San Javier in Maule.
These vineyards provide the fruit for Wine Hunter, an exploratory range under the Mala Testa brand, created to explore different varieties and wine-growing areas while continuing to bring new origins into the project.
