History
Founded in 2012 by William Evelyn and his family, Viña Tumuñan was born from a vision to craft wines that convey, with absolute authenticity, the character of their origin. The journey began with the planting of the highest-altitude Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the region, set in a forested, mountainous valley of the Andes.

This boutique, family-owned and -run project prioritises quality over quantity, guided by a deep respect for the terroir. Its philosophy of minimal intervention allows each wine to faithfully express the identity of its place and the unique natural conditions that surround it.

Vineyard
Located in the Andean foothills at 720 metres above sea level — the natural limit for grape production in the Colchagua Valley — the vineyard thrives in an extreme terroir. It faces challenges such as snow, hail, frost, wild boar, rabbits, and birds, yet benefits from exceptional conditions: cool nights, high sun exposure, and a slow, balanced ripening that brings great concentration, freshness, and elegance to the fruit.

The geology is defined by volcanic formations (andesites, ignimbrites, and tuffs) and well-drained soils composed of cobblestones, gravel, clay, sand, and silt from ancient alluvial deposits. The slow weathering of these stones releases essential minerals that enrich the wine’s profile.

The vineyard is harmoniously integrated into native sclerophyll forest, where species such as boldo, peumo, and quillay contribute organic matter and humus to the soil, while also infusing the surroundings with aromas, resins, and essential oils that lend distinctive nuances to the wine.

Tumuñan’s climate is truly unique: cold, snowy winters keep the vineyard naturally free of pests — facilitating organic management — while during the growing season, warm, sunny days and very cool nights encourage slow ripening, enhancing the grapes’ natural acidity and aromatic expression.
