History
In 1998, Viña Leyda was established as a pioneer in the then-unknown Leyda Valley, which lacked a Denomination of Origin at the time. The natural scarcity of water in the area made it a dry growing region, so Viña Leyda invested in the construction of an 8-kilometer pipeline to irrigate the estate with water from the Maipo River.

A few years later, in 2001, they launched their first commercial harvest under the Leyda brand. At that time, the associated designation was the San Antonio Valley. However, the winery recognized that the coastal influence and the differences in soil and climate were producing wines distinct from those originating in this valley. Consequently, they requested recognition as D.O. Valle de Leyda, which was granted in May 2002.

Today, Viña Leyda is internationally recognized as a boutique winery, renowned for its exceptional Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. In just two decades, it has become one of Chile’s most acclaimed coastal wineries.

Vineyards
The Leyda region is characterized by its strong maritime influence, with morning sea fogs and fresh afternoon breezes. This cool coastal climate means that the grapes experience a slow ripening period, which imparts intense aromas and naturally high, crisp acidity to the wines.

Viña Leyda is located to the west of the Coastal Range, at an altitude of 180 meters above sea level. It is situated 40 kilometers from Casablanca and 95 kilometers from Santiago, with the first vineyards planted in 1998. The estate encompasses 163 hectares of vineyards, irrigated with mineral-rich water from the Maipo River.

These vineyards feature various soil types and exposures, enhancing the distinctive character of each parcel. Therefore, Viña Leyda is associated with terroir-driven wines. Each vineyard has unique plots that receive different intensities of sunlight during the day, leading to varying levels of grape ripeness and, consequently, wines with distinct characteristics.
