History
Viña La Torina has long been part of the history of Pichidegua, in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, and holds a special place in the collective memory of the local community thanks to a longstanding commitment to social responsibility. Its origins date back to 1951, when the owners of Hacienda La Torina, following the advice of French experts, planted Cabernet Sauvignon brought specially from Europe on the foothills of the Pichidegua hills. Among them was Teresa Guerra Torro, the first female mayor of the commune (1953-1956) and a descendant of Mateo de Toro y Zambrano. They recognised the potential of the area's distinctive climate, soils and unique sun exposure.
In 1992, Gonzalo Sánchez Rivas acquired the then semi-abandoned vineyard and incorporated it into Fundo Santa Carmen de La Torina, continuing the tradition of the historic estate. With the guidance of Ricardo Vial Cox, the vineyard was revived and brought back into full production, supplying grapes to major wineries. In 2000, the family began exploring the possibility of using part of the harvest to make its own wine, releasing its first wines under the Viña La Torina name in 2001, in tribute to the land to which it belongs.
Vineyards
Located at the foot of Cerro Valdovinos, in the commune of Pichidegua, the vineyards are planted on deep, stony soils that allow for extensive root development and help raise soil temperatures, encouraging the accumulation of Brix and promoting even ripening.
The vineyards also benefit from the area's distinctive microclimate, which contributes to concentration and balance in the grapes.
Varieties planted: Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère.
