History
Casa Marín was born from the bold vision of María Luz Marín, Chile’s first female winemaker. In 2000, she challenged the conventions of Chilean viticulture by dedicating herself to crafting premium white wines — a daring proposition at the time. She also had the resolve to plant vineyards in Lo Abarca, a coastal enclave whose extreme conditions had long been considered inhospitable to vines. Through her determination, this rugged landscape was transformed into an exceptional terroir, now the source of distinctive wines celebrated on the world stage.
Today, the new generation — Jamie Verbraak, Felipe Marín and Nicolás Marín — carries this pioneering legacy forward. Blending experience with creativity and innovation, they work to elevate Casa Marín to new heights, while preserving its deep connection to nature and its unwavering commitment to quality.
Every bottle of Casa Marín is a tribute to the land, the vines, the wind and the sea — and to the spirit of those who believe life is meant to be celebrated.
Vineyards
Lo Abarca
Located in a small sub-valley of the San Antonio Valley, just 4.5 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, Lo Abarca enjoys a microclimate that is considerably cooler than its neighbours in the Leyda Valley. Although only 15 minutes apart by car, the temperature in Lo Abarca can be up to 6°C lower on the same day. This results in slower grape ripening and lower yields per vine, but with the advantage of producing grapes with more concentrated aromas and flavours, along with naturally high acidity. During the growing season (September to May), average temperatures are even slightly lower than in Alsace, the French region renowned for its Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
The 40-hectare vineyard is set on four types of soils —sandy, clay, calcareous with marine deposits, and granite— each contributing distinct nuances to the grapes. Poorer soils, such as granite and calcareous, tend to yield more mineral and elegant wines, while clay soils give rise to rounder styles. This diversity has led to the division of the vineyard into 57 plots, each requiring specific management. The topography, marked by slopes and irregular contours, makes it a unique site in Chile and worldwide, as most vineyards around the globe are planted on flat or gently undulating terrain. The planted varieties include five white grapes: Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and, since 2018, Chardonnay; and three reds: Pinot Noir, Syrah and Garnacha.
Viña Casa Marín operates under a philosophy of environmental respect, implementing sustainable practices and sourcing 100% renewable energy thanks to its solar plant.
