History Founded in 1865 in the Curicó Valley by the Correa Albano brothers, Viña San Pedro is one of Chile’s most emblematic and historic wineries. Its pioneering vision was evident from the outset, introducing European grape varieties to the country and laying the foundations for the development of the national wine industry. Over the years, San Pedro has established itself as one of the leading exporters of Chilean wine, with a presence in more than 80 countries.
In 2001, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and excellence, the winery inaugurated a contemporary facility designed by acclaimed Chilean architect Samuel Claro. The project sought to harmoniously integrate the architecture with the natural surroundings, situating the structure among the folds of the Andes Mountains and granting it a privileged view over the valley.
Today, the winery faces the industry’s pressing challenges: climate change, sustainable water management, and adaptation to ever-evolving global markets.
Vineyards The vineyards are located in the Cachapoal Andes Denomination of Origin, in the Andean zone of the Cachapoal Valley, Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Region, Chile. Nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, they benefit from the combined influence of mountain climate and maritime breezes from the Pacific Ocean.
Proximity to the mountains brings a marked diurnal temperature variation, while the valley’s orientation allows for diverse sun exposure. Cool winds from the Humboldt Current provide natural ventilation and help maintain vine health. The temperate Mediterranean climate enables slow and balanced ripening of the grapes.
Soil diversity includes colluvial soils with predominance of matrix, balanced and rocky colluvials, fluvial soils with matrix and balanced textures, as well as intrusive formations of granodiorite and andesitic porphyry. This edaphic variety supports the cultivation of different grape varieties and enhances the expressive complexity of the wines.
These conditions make Cachapoal Andes an exceptional terroir for producing high-quality, structured, and elegant red wines. Main red grape varieties planted: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Carménère, and Petit Verdot.
