History Viña Requingua, whose name means "Corner of the Winds" in the Mapuche language, has its roots in October 1961, when it was founded by Santiago Achurra Larraín, laying the foundations of its legacy. At that time, the estate had only a small winery with a capacity of 400,000 litres, featuring wooden tanks and earthen floors, alongside a large house built at the end of the 19th century. Despite the initial challenges, the family managed to make significant improvements in infrastructure, drainage, canals, housing, and electrification.
Today, with the third generation at the helm, Viña Requingua continues its legacy, focusing on the production of premium wines that reflect the essence of their land. The winemaking team, consisting of professionals passionate about excellence, works tirelessly to create wines that satisfy diverse palates and accompany special moments.
Vineyards Sur Valles Wine Group currently manages 1,055 hectares across 13 vineyards distributed in the main wine-growing valleys of Chile: Casablanca, Maipo, Cachapoal, Colchagua, Curicó, Maule, and Itata.
Maipo Valley Located in the Metropolitan Region near Santiago, it is one of the oldest wine regions in Chile. With a Mediterranean climate moderated by the Humboldt Current and well-drained alluvial soils, it is ideal for viticulture. The main planted varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc, with Cabernet Sauvignon standing out for its quality and complexity.
Casablanca Valley A relatively new valley compared to those in the Central Valley, Casablanca is a coastal valley with a cool climate and a longer ripening period. This allows the wines to have a better concentration of natural acidity. It is an ideal valley for early-ripening varieties like Pinot Noir.
Cachapoal Valley Situated in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins Region, this valley benefits from a diversity of microclimates and soils, ranging from alluvial and colluvial to volcanic. The Mediterranean climate with Andean and coastal influences allows for a slow and uniform ripening of the grapes. The main varieties are Carménère, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, with Carménère being the most representative variety.
Colchagua Valley This valley is internationally renowned for the quality of its wines. The vineyards of Viña Requingua are located in the middle areas of the valley, where the warm climate is ideal for varieties that require sun and heat to ripen. The wines from this valley exhibit ripe flavours, high alcoholic strength, and smoothness.
Curicó Valley In this valley, the flagship vineyard of Viña Requingua and its winery are located. It is characterised by loamy soil textures, medium fertility, and well-irrigated conditions thanks to a network of canals originating from the rivers in the middle of the valley.
Maule Valley This valley is one of the most diverse in terms of soil and climate in Chile's wine scene. This diversity allows Viña Requingua to have seven different vineyards, offering a wide range of possibilities for crafting the highest quality wines.
Itata Valley Located in the Ñuble Region, it is one of the oldest wine-growing areas in Chile, with more than 400 years of history. Its temperate climate with maritime influence and granitic and clay soils favour traditional viticulture. The main grape varieties are País, Cinsault, Muscat of Alexandria, and Carignan, with País standing out for its antiquity and distinctive character in the region.
