History
Loma Larga Vineyards is a family-owned Chilean winery with a long winemaking tradition dating back to the 19th century. Founded in 1995 by Patricio Díaz, Rosita Santelices, and their son Felipe in the Casablanca Valley, the winery pays homage to the legacy of their great-grandfather, who introduced French grape varieties to Chile from Paris and Bordeaux. The Díaz family were pioneers in history by presenting their wines at the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1889, contributing to the international recognition of Chilean wines.

Since its inception, Loma Larga has distinguished itself by its innovative spirit, venturing to cultivate non-traditional red grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Syrah in the Casablanca Valley, known predominantly for producing white wines. Before planting the vineyards, the family conducted an exhaustive five-year study on the climate and soils of the Loma Larga estate. This terroir, located 25 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean and characterised by a long hill from which it gets its name, offers a rich diversity of soils and an ideal sun exposure for different grape varieties.

Loma Larga's philosophy focuses on innovation and quality, producing wines that faithfully express the cool climate terroir. This approach has resulted in wines of great freshness and aromatic potential, praised by both national and international critics.

Vineyard
The vineyard is located within the Casablanca D.O., in the Lo Ovalle sub-valley, Valparaíso Region, only 25 km from the Pacific Ocean, providing constant ventilation from sea breezes. This sub-valley presents one of the highest diurnal temperature ranges in the world, ideal for a long growing season and slow ripening of the grapes. The topographical conditions allow for different soil types and temperatures, which is crucial for cultivating five red grape varieties, including Malbec, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc in a cool coastal area.

The soils are predominantly clay-loam on the slopes and hills where most of the vineyard is planted, ideal for delicate roots like those of Malbec. The climate is cool and coastal, with marked temperature differences between day and night. In summer, temperatures range between 30°C and 9°C, while in winter they range between 15°C and 2°C. The air recirculation and meticulous vineyard management contribute to a very slow and concentrated phenolic ripening of the grapes. Main grape varieties planted: pioneers in Chile in planting Syrah, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc in a cool coastal climate. Additionally, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Merlot are cultivated.
