History
Viña La Rosa is one of Chile's most traditional and long-standing vineyards, with an immeasurable historical wealth that is recorded in the annals of Chile. Beyond its attractive productive flow, the fruitful and profound Carménère is living proof that what began 100 years ago is now the present and the future. Attracted by the beauty of the Cachapoal Valley and the Peumo area, Mr. Francisco Ossa, a mining entrepreneur based in northern Chile, acquired in 1824 the estate and vineyards of Manuel Blanco Encalada, the first president of Chile.
Today, the sixth generation of the family, led by Ismael Ossa Errázuriz, is responsible for preserving the founders' legacy and positioning Viña La Rosa as a producer of world-class wines. Approximately 600 hectares of their own vineyards planted in the Peumo area, Cachapoal Valley, are carefully managed by a team of viticulturists and winemakers through sustainable practices in harmony with nature, harvesting grapes with typicity and a variety of aromas and flavors, and producing wines of origin, honesty, and quality.
Vineyards The vineyards are located in the Cachapoal Valley, specifically in the Peumo area. Currently, they cover around 600 hectares in production, with mainly French varieties. The plantations are divided into three sub-valleys known as La Rosa, Cornellana, and Palmería.
La Rosa is characterized by its proximity to the Cachapoal River, making it the coolest sector. In the areas close to the river, the soils are deep, with a significant presence of sand. As you move towards the hills, the soil becomes mixed, with a sandy and colluvial base. In the piedmont, the soil is colluvial and deep, ideal for Carménère.
The sub-valleys of Palmería and Cornellana are surrounded by mountains, which results in higher temperatures. The plantations are located on medium to steep slopes, with a significant presence of parent rock in different states of fragmentation, giving the wines a distinctive minerality and structure. The climate is Mediterranean, with plenty of sunshine and cool nights thanks to the influence of the Cachapoal River. Varieties planted: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Syrah, Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Grigio.
