History
InVina was born from the vision of Richard Huber, originally from Smoky Mountain Forest, in the heart of North Carolina, and the son of a forest ranger. Although he specialised in chemistry, his time at the Instituto de la Grasa in Seville changed his life when he fell in love not with the oil, but with the vibrant nightlife of Plaza Mayor, with its tapas, socialising, and wine in pitchers.
In 1999, Huber decided to invest in the wine business in Chile. Although his first attempt was not successful, he was not discouraged and, together with his son Alex, started a new family project in 2007. Recognising that Chile’s competitive advantage lay in its vineyards, they initially focused on the production and sale of fine grapes. However, they soon realised that the greatest profits were to be found with the wine producers, not the grape growers. Thus, in 2012, they built a winery and dedicated themselves to producing fine bottled wines.
With four vineyards strategically located in the Maule Valley, from east to west, InVina takes advantage of a variety of climates and soils to produce a wide range of wines, committed to discovering and projecting the quality and diversity of this valley. They apply modern viticulture and winemaking practices, but science is not everything, and they leave room for art, experimentation, and bold decisions. The winery is modern, simple, and flexible, with a focus on creating authentic wines with character that reflect their origin. Author wines, at marketable levels.
Vineyards InVina owns four vineyards in the Maule Valley, with a total of 225 hectares planted. The vineyards are arranged along an east-west axis, starting at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, crossing the central plain, and ending in the Coastal Range.
Mataverde Located near the foothills of the Andes, it sits on ancient fluvial soil composed of sand and stones. With 36 hectares planted, this vineyard enjoys a cool climate and an abundant supply of irrigation water, making it ideal for the cultivation of white grapes. Mornings are cool with fog in spring and autumn, followed by warm days and refreshing mountain breezes in the afternoon, and nights with sharp drops in temperature.
Planted varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Pinot Noir.
Buena Vista Located in San Rafael, at the northern entrance of the Maule Valley, on the western side of the central plain, at the foot of the Coastal Range. With 44 hectares planted, this vineyard has undulating topography, shallow clay-loam soils over volcanic tuff, and a moderate climate.
Planted varieties: Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère.
Las Tizas Located in the Pencahue sector, at an altitude of between 80 and 110 metres above sea level, surrounded by the hills of the Coastal Range, which creates a greenhouse effect with high temperatures. The hot days are cooled at night by sea breezes. With 50 hectares planted, the vineyard has a topography of rolling hills cut by ravines and shallow sandy-clay soils overlying calcareous limestone (chalk).
Planted varieties: Syrah, Petit Verdot, Carménère, and Cabernet Sauvignon in a ripe, full-bodied style.
Batuco Situated in the Coastal Range, at an altitude of 200-250 metres above sea level, it is characterised by a moderate climate due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. This environment provides cool daytime temperatures, afternoon sea breezes, and cold nights, with temperature fluctuations that can reach 30 degrees. With 95 hectares planted, the soils are deep alluvial clay-loam, which allows for adequate moisture retention, favouring moderate vine growth and slow grape ripening.
Planted varieties: a wide range of varieties, from Sauvignon Blanc to Cabernet Franc, Carménère, Syrah, Grenache, and Tempranillo, among others.
