History
In Situ Family Vineyards was founded in 1974 by José Vicente, who dedicated two decades exclusively to grape production. With a vision to complete the production cycle and produce high-quality wines, José Vicente and his son Horacio decided to renovate the vineyards and build a modern winery in the Aconcagua Valley. Horacio, who studied Oenology at the University of Bordeaux and has experience in renowned wineries in France and California, brought extensive knowledge in both viticulture and winemaking. This expertise has been key to the vineyard's oenological excellence, as reflected in numerous international awards.
The In Situ logo pays homage to the petroglyphs of the Paidahuén Archaeological Park, an archaeological site located on the winery's property. This place houses more than 500 rock art figures, created by the ancient inhabitants of the Aconcagua Valley about 1,000 years ago. These images, full of symbolism and mystery, offer us clues about the mindset of the natives, as well as the influence of the Inca State in the region.
Vineyards
In Situ Family Vineyards is situated in the eastern sector of the Aconcagua Valley, at the foot of the Andes Mountains and along the Aconcagua River. The wineries are located in the commune of San Esteban, at an altitude of 870 m.a.s.l., and the vineyards are planted on the slopes of the Paidahuén hill, reaching up to 940 m.a.s.l.
The terroir of Alto Aconcagua, with its unique combination of soil, light, and water, is ideal for cultivating high-quality vineyards. The hot summer days favour the ripening of tannins and the accumulation of sugars in the grapes, while the cool night breeze descending from the mountain allows for excellent aromatic expression.
Fundo La Florida Located on the banks of the Aconcagua River, this vineyard is characterised by fluvial soil composed of sand and rock fragments transported from the Andes Mountains. The light soil texture regulates water retention and plant vigour, favouring the concentration of aromas and soft tannins in the grapes.
Varieties planted: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Franc, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier.
Fundo Paidahuén The vineyards planted on the Paidahuén hill in 1994 enjoy a unique combination of rocky soil and solar exposure. The soil in this area is shallow (30 to 60 cm) and was formed during the Cretaceous period, approximately 65-99 million years ago. Over millennia, the in situ fragmentation of rocks has resulted in soil composed of eroded rock, clay, and excellent drainage capacity, creating optimal conditions for producing grapes with great concentration and fruit expression.
Varieties planted: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carménère, Syrah, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot, Carignan.
