History
From the Greek "calyptros," meaning hat, Calyptra refers to the cap of the vine flower that protects the reproductive organs of the plant. When blooming, the plant sheds this cap, celebrating the arrival of spring.

In 1989, Dr. José Zarhi acquired the 80-hectare estate "Santa Cruz de Coya." Upon discovering that the land had been rich in vine plantations around 1920, he decided to embark on a winemaking adventure, replacing fruit trees with Chardonnay vines. A study of the soil and climatic conditions confirmed that the characteristics of the terrain were optimal for producing high-end wines.

Thus was Calyptra born — a project that embraces its roots to create exceptional, honest, and unique wines, a true expression of the mountain terroir of the Cachapoal Valley. Calyptra stands out for its commitment to sustainable agriculture — with organically certified vineyards since 2024 — and winemaking processes that combine tradition and innovation. This dedication results in distinctive, authentic wines that honour the soil and the quality of the grapes, thanks to the effort and passion of the entire team.
