History
The Bouchon family has a winemaking history spanning more than 135 years and four generations. Its origins date back to the arrival of Emile Bouchon from France in 1887, when he was hired as a winemaking consultant. He later acquired an old winery in the Colchagua Valley and transformed it into a renowned estate. This tradition was carried on by his children.

It was his grandson, Julio Bouchon S., who fell in love with a new terroir in the inland drylands of the Maule Valley and, in 1977, purchased the Mingre estate: an old property with dry-farmed, century-old vines and an adobe winery dating back to the early 20th century. Bouchon expresses its French and Chilean heritage through wines crafted from both Bordeaux and local varieties, including Carménère, Carignan and País.

One of its key projects has been to protect and revitalise the País grape — one of Chile’s ancestral varieties, with plantings dating back to the 16th century — as a way of showcasing the true identity of Chilean wine on the world stage. This work is part of a new generation of Chilean winemakers who look to the country’s viticultural past to define its future.

The story continues. The integration of Viña Bouchon into Undurraga Wine Group in 2024 marked a new stage of growth and international visibility for this heritage winery. Becoming part of a group with global reach has enabled Viña Bouchon to access new markets, strengthen distribution, and optimise logistical and commercial resources. This synergy has amplified its history, traditions and sustainable winemaking practices, highlighting its authenticity and quality.

Viña Bouchon is committed to caring for the environment, ensuring fair conditions in its relationships with collaborators, and reducing the impact of its operations. It holds Sustainability Code certification, awarded by Wines of Chile and audited by SGS. This certification covers all production and winemaking processes, with objectives relating to vineyards, the winery, and the social sphere.

Vineyards
Bouchon’s vineyards are planted in the inland drylands of the Maule Valley, on ancient granite soils that lend mineral character and depth to its wines.
